Potter: Many Cast Comment on Fantastic Beasts, The Tale of Three Brothers Preview

In post-Potter Rowling adaptions, we previously told you about a Tale of the Three Brothers Live action film being made. The most famous story from The Tales of Beedle the Bard is being made into a short film by The New England School of Communications:

"Production in the state of Maine began in October and the first photos and behind-the-scenes video, via the Franklin Sun Journal, were released online".

In other adaptions, the news giant that is the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them film, has been the topic interviewers like to gain comment on from anyone involved previously in the Potter franchise.

Lots of people, including Rupert Grint, Alan Rickman and even Daniel Radcliffe have given their two cents. Here is what they had to say:

Grint: “I don’t know how it would work, to be honest,” Grint said of the slated film. “I think I kind of closed the door on that now. As much as I loved it and it was a huge part of my life, I think it ended at the right time. But, yeah, I’m happy to just watch that one.”

Rickman: "I don't really know what she's doing," Rickman said.

"I suppose I'm wise enough to never say 'never,' but I'm dead so I don't know where I'm going to be scrapped back from. I'm so dead."

Radcliffe: Since Rowling's book is set before the birth of the three main Potter characters, Radcliffe theorizes he could only return if "time travel rears its head again. I'll be intrigued to see what she does."

More information came from the producer, David Heyman recently:

Heyman then asked us the more pressing casting question, "Who should play Newt?" Did he want a relatively unknown actor, someone who hasn't been overexposed? "I like that," he said. "Please, I need all the help I can get!" Well, then! We thought about it and rattled off a few names:

• Dev Patel ("He's a really good actor," Heyman agreed.)
• Thomas Brodie-Sangster, despite the fact that he's playing another character named Newt in The Maze Runner ("I know him, he's excellent.")
• Jack Gleeson, who's said he wants to go into academia after his reign as King Joffrey on Game of Thrones ends, but perhaps could be convinced to play an academic instead ("How old is he?" Heyman asked. "Newt is a tiny bit older.")
• Bret McKenzie, who is much older, but can play younger ("He's really good.")
• And if they wanted to promote from within, Harry Melling, who originally played Dudley Dursley but has thinned out considerably as he's grown up, which is why he was wearing a fat suit in Deathly Hallows ("He's a really good actor, and I love his work, but that's a little more difficult because he's been Dudley.")

Tom Felton,Matthew Lewis, James and Oliver Phelps - Interviews, New Roles

In cast news, there is a new audio interview available with Tom Felton and a text interview with Matthew Lewis.

Tom Felton spoke to Daily Actor about the upcoming show Full Circle and leaving Potter behind him. The audio can be listened to here or alternatively downloaded through Itunes. HeyUGuys interviewed Matthew and the rest of the Rise cast, and the transcript can be read here.

Finally, James and Oliver Phelps have finally, TOGETHER (yay), been cast in their first Post Potter film:

Own Worst Enemy, a pitch black comedy about an agoraphobic man struggling to stay sane within the confines of his pokey flat as his newly formed imaginary enemy taunts and ridicules him at every opportunity. Added to this, with heavy rain pouring in through his leaky roof he becomes convinced that the local weather presenter is deliberately predicting bad weather in an attempt to flood his house. With nowhere to escape to and nowhere to hide he must remedy the situation as best he can as the line between fantasy and reality blurs.

The twins play a set of police men in the black comedy set in their very own Birmingham. A picture of the pair in their roles is above. James is far right as Constable Berrow and Oliver is far left as Constable Stroyde. Also pictured are actors Mike Baughan, Mathew Waters, and Terri Dwyer.

Dan Radcliffe: Talks Writing His Own Script, More TIFF Videos, EW Interview About Horns,Frankenstein

Dan Radcliffe's been on the interview circuit lately with Toronto Film Festival and a couple more videos are below in which he discusses Kill Your Darlings , The F Word and even Season 2 of A Young Doctor's Notebook:

In other interviews, Daniel Radcliffe spoke to Entertainment Weekly about Harry Potter, Horns and Frankenstein. Some snippits are below:

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: Two years removed from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, which capped a decade of eight movies that grossed more than $7.7 billion worldwide, do you find that the industry still sees you as that character, and do you find that frustrating?
DANIEL RADCLIFFE: On the whole, no is the answer to that question. Occasionally you’ll get some script in for some crappy fantasy thing and you just go, “Well, no, guys.” But generally speaking, I think the fact that I’ve shown a willingness to stretch myself and test myself means that people want to test you. So, no, I don’t get frustrated by that because it hasn’t — so far, at least — been an issue.

In Horns, you play a character who’s suspected of murdering his girlfriend and then wakes up to find devilish horns growing out of his head. It’s a movie that seems to be having a little fun with Harry Potter and the fame of playing him.
Probably Alex [Aja] snuck some stuff in there that I wasn’t aware of. I think it’s mostly happenstance, stuff like obviously the snakes being a huge part, and the fact that I’m wearing red and gold. I think there were just a lot of things in this film that already existed, but take on a slightly richer meta layer when I’m cast in the role. 

He also spoke to PopSugar about writing his own script:

PS: Do you have plans to work in film outside of acting?
DR: I have written a script. I’ve completed it; I don’t know if it’s any good, but it’s certainly nice to have finished something. That’s a huge achievement for me at this point. It’s a very, very dark comedy. There’s always themes I’m really interested in. They are themes that aren’t dissimilar to [Kill Your Darlings], about friendship and when a friendship becomes unhealthy and what you have to do to move on from that. But it’s a much more heightened scenario. It’s probably sh*t! But the point is, I’ve finished it, and the next thing I write won’t be!

James and Oliver Phelps For Shakespeare Movie,Matt Lewis Pictures From Walk of Smiles

As we previously reported, Matthew Lewis attended the Walk of Smiles event in Leeds on Saturday. Yet, I am not totally sure he actually participated, rather he raised money by attending the finish line.
Today,  MatthewLewis.Com have posted images, one of which is left whereas the other are in our Cast album.

In other cast news, James and Oliver Phelps are being reported as to star in a new film adaption of Hamlet! According to Snitchseeker, their first proper Potter roles are to be that of  Guildenstern and Rosencratz in the Shakespeare tragedy. This is listed on their IMDB pages and no official announcement has been made as yet.

Into the White (Rupert Grint) US Release Date, Katie Leung's Channel 4 Drama

It has been announced that Rupert Grint's Into The White which was released on DVD in the UK as Cross of Honour will be released in US cinemas this coming April, on the 12th. A new poster(resembling the uk release dvd) for the film is available left.

In other long-in-coming post Potter projects, Katie Leung has recorded a mini-series for Channel 4 which will air this March in the UK. Katie has previously discussed the series, entitled Run, with the Daily Mail, snippits from which can be read below:

Your part in Run couldn’t really be more different from Harry Potter.

Katie Leung: Ying’s experiences in those 45 minutes get worse and worse. There’s nudity, there’s a rape – and there are a few scenes which have been cut, such as when Ying sleeps on the street for a night and two teenagers who have been out drinking urinate all over her. It was not very nice.

Did you know much about Britain’s illegal immigrants beforehand?

Katie: It’s a subject that has fascinated me for quite a while. Coincidentally, I did a photography project in my final year at the Edinburgh College of Art, while I was in Wild Swans, and I photographed a few immigrants. It really saddened me because they’re completely ignored by society and yet they’re such an integral part of it. They get a lot of bad press – with the economy today they’re blamed for everything. There should be more compassion for what they’re going through, because, at the end of the day, they’re just trying to pay their bills.

UPDATED: Dan Wraps on 'Horns', Attends Whistler Film Festival

Dan posted a new images (left) of him with other Horns collaborators including Alex Aja, Joe Anderson and Max Minghella on Google+ as he confirmed that the film has wrapped.

The special 'Spotlight' event in his honor was held last night at the Whistler Festival in Canada, where he gave a Q&A. Mugglenet were in attendance and posted the following quotes:

Daniel Radcliffe attended the 12th annual Whistler Film Festival last night. Over the course of an hour Dan was interviewed by George Stroumboulopoulos, popular Canadian radio personality and talk show host, for Spotlight on Daniel Radcliffe.
Dan opened up about growing up in the spotlight, worrying that he would grow conceited but trusted in his parents and co-workers on the Potter films to keep him in check. He called the paparazzi "downright criminal" in their behaviour stating, "when else can five men chase a woman down an alley and that be okay" referring to how the paprazzo treated Emma after turning 18.
Radcliffe opened up more about directing and producing, saying that he would like to get behind the camera but thought the only chance he'd have to direct is if he wrote the script himself. About the short comings of trying to define a movie, he said "the harder a film is to define the better it probably is".
Dan told us a great story about how he got his job with Extras, almost 8 years ago, saying "it was the weirdest way he's ever gotten a job, the first job he's ever said yes to without reading a script". According to him while in Australia filming December Boys he was watching a snake slither around a table, bottle feeding an orphaned kangaroo, when his dad ran into the room with Ricky Gervais on the phone asking him to be on the popular British sitcom.

Dan on The Woman in Black being make'r'break for his career:

"But yeah, if that film had done nothing, I would have been devastated, and really concerned. . . . So I was very pleased when that film did well. But I have to say, I did also smile a small smile when I heard that it was the most complained-about film ever, to the censorship commission. I did go around the whole way saying, 'if you have kids under 12, don't take them.' It is really a scary movie."

On Kill Your Darlings:

It's fun. The script is not reverent. It doesn't hold these men up as the venerable greats of American literature. It shows them as the kind of drug-addled miscreants that they were in the 1940s when they first met. It's not just going to be just a dry, historical recounting of events . . . I hope it's going to be a very beautiful, very sad story about love, and what it means to be an artist. 

Joking about getting great news in the same way repeatedly:

Yeah, that's the story of my life, basically - my dad running into the room to give me great news.

Tom Felton on the Set of 'Belle'

Feltbeats have just released an image of Tom Felton from the set of his latest film, Belle. This first look at the star in 18th Century dress can now be seen left.

Bonnie Wright in Ireland at the seaside with Aberforth Dumbledore

Bonnie Wright first alluded to her presence in Ireland when she posted an image of her drinking "a pint of the country's finest" Guinness on Arthur Guinness Day. She later announced that she was on the coast to film the movie adaption of a John Banville novel :

"Sooooo the project I've being doing in Ireland is called...The Sea, an adaption of the stunning novel by John Banville"

 She also posted the image of left of the seaside where she was filming with fellow Potter Alumni Ciaran Hinds,aka Aberforth Dumbledore. Rufus Sewell is also in the film according to another twitter post from the actress. Bonnie also revealed that her character  is called "Rose later played by Charlotte Rampling".

The film has now wrapped as the Ginny Weasley actress posted:
"And that's a wrap on The Sea...a fantastic two weeks with an amazing cast and crew!"

JK Rowling Casual Vacancy Release,Reviews,Interview

The Casual Vacancy is doing very well (and rightly so!), and is atop the USA Today list according to Leaky Cauldron, with an added bonus of knocking 'popular because of hype' book 50 Shades of...Grey off the top.

In the U.K., there were 124,603 copies sold in its first week to take the top spot on the country's fiction chart. This is the fastest-selling hard cover in Britain since Dan Brown's The Lost Symbol came out in 2009, which sold more than 550,000 copies in its first week.

Have you read it yet? Feel free to add your opinions to the comments section of this page. I'm taking my time with it, but so far its characters are phenomenal and the plot,even though I don't really have a taste for political drama, is relatively gripping. 

In the run-up to the release, some promotion was done by Queen Rowling(a name I've been hearing Jo being dubbed quite a lot on Twitter) including mostly video interviews. As JK rarely gives interviews this was a big excitement for us Potter fans. The key interviews occurred with ABC Australia and The Culture Show in the UK. I had a link to the entire ABC 'Life After Harry Potter' interview of over a half hour,but it has since been taken down. I will continue searching for a replacement. In the meantime, below is a 6 minute section of that interview:

Finally, JKR appeared on a The Culture Show special on BBC last week(i caught it by chance and was very happy. A friendly WARNING for younger  viewers that parts of the novel are read that include rather strong language. The video is below:

The German publication Spiegal did an interview with the writer which can be read in full here with a few snippets below:

SPIEGEL: Did you ever enjoy killing off a character?
JK Rowling: No, never. Although that's not quite true. There was one exception. The only character I was happy to kill off was Bellatrix Lestrange in the last Harry Potter volume. Being able to kill her was a pleasure.

But can't all that freedom also lead to writer's block?
Rowling: I like writing too much for that. More of a problem is the fact that Harry Potter comes with so many business-related responsibilities that I'm able to write less often than I'd like. Besides, I have three children, although I'm used to working around my children. Yesterday, for example, I had a wonderful writing day. I got the children ready for school, and once my husband was out of the house with them, I made breakfast for myself in the kitchen. Still in my pajamas, I took my breakfast to bed with me, grabbed my laptop and spent four hours working in bed. Delightful.

J.K. Rowling: More, actually. There were two books for children that are pretty well developed, and I think I will publish at some point. I like both of those. I’m pretty sure I know what the next one for adults will be, which I have started but is not very well advanced.
